Presolar grains from meteorites: Remnants from the early times of the solar system

چکیده
This review provides an introduction to presolar grains – preserved stardust from the interstellar molecular cloud from which our solar system formed – found in primitive meteorites. We describe the search for the presolar components, the currently known presolar mineral populations, and the chemical and isotopic characteristics of the grains and dustforming stars to identify the grains’ most probable stellar sources. r 2005 Elsevier GmbH. Presolar grains in meteorites and interplanetary dust: An overview
Small amounts of pre-solar grains have survived in the matrices of primitive meteorites and interplanetary dust particles. Their detailed study in the laboratory with modern analytical tools provides highly accurate and detailed information with regard to stellar nucleosynthesis and evolution, grain formation in stellar atmospheres, and Galactic Chemical Evolution. Their survival puts constrain...
متن کاملRecoil Loss of Cosmogenically Produced Helium and Neon in Presolar
Introduction: Presolar dust grains found in meteorites are widely considered to originate from areas beyond the solar system, an assumption mainly based on their unique isotope composition [1]. Of special interest among these grains are those consisting of silicone carbide (SiC), which represent the second most abundant type of presolar grains found in meteorites. SiC grains are usually larger ...
متن کاملOn the Mass and Metallicity Distributions of the Parent AGB Stars of O-rich Presolar Stardust Grains
Presolar grains in meteorites formed in a sample of AGB stars that ended their lives within ≈1 Gyr of the origin of the Solar System 4.6 Gyr ago. The O-isotopic compositions of presolar O-rich stardust reflect the masses and metallicities of their parent stars. We present simple Monte Carlo simulations of the parent AGB stars of presolar grains. Comparison of model predictions with the grain da...
متن کاملTrapping and Modification Processes of Noble Gases and Nitrogen in Meteorites and Their Parent Bodies
We review the inventories of primordial noble gases and nitrogen in meteorites, their carrier phases, how and where they may have been incorporated, as well as processes modifying their abundances on meteorite parent bodies. Some of the many distinct noble gas and nitrogen components have an isotopic composition very different from that in the Sun. These components reside in presolar grains. “A...
متن کاملDust from AGB stars
Dust is formed in the expanding atmosphere during late stages of stellar evolution. Dust influences the dynamics and thermodynamics of the stellar atmosphere by its opacity. The dust opacity depends both on the optical properties of the grain material as well as on the amount of dust present. A rich source of information on some mineral phases of dust in AGB stars comes from the study of presol...
